Miss UAFS competition canceled due to "unforeseen circumstances"

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

This year’s Miss UAFS Scholarship Competition has been canceled due to undisclosed circumstances. The event was set to take place this Saturday, March 5th.

“Because of such sudden events leading us to cancel, and the timing of our competition, university officials cannot set an alternate date within the window required to qualify for Miss Arkansas.” the Miss UAFS Facebook page announced.

The competition started in 1978 and awards over $14,000 in grants and scholarships each year to the winner and runner-ups. Events in the contest include interviews, talent display, QnA and interview, evening gowns, and social impact.

“We are all disappointed that our competitors will not be able to share their talents and platforms with our campus community this year, especially knowing the hard work that goes into planning and perfecting them.” the Facebook post laments.

In the comments of the post, the organization revealed that they would search for a way to still award contestants with scholarships.

“Unfortunately, it does not appear feasible to reschedule this year. However, the UAFS Foundation is working with the contestants who were registered to award scholarships so they do not miss out on the educational benefit of this competition.” the organization responded.

This is the second time in four years that the competition has been canceled. The exact cause of this sudden cancellation is unknown.
