In the Arkansas River Valley where small businesses often rely as much on relationships as they do revenue, networking is less of a strategy and more of a survival skill. For women entrepreneurs, however, finding the right room to build those relationships hasn't always been easy. That’s where groups like River Valley Social are stepping in.
Built as a women-focused networking community in the Fort Smith area, River Valley Social is part of a broader shift toward more intentional, inclusive business spaces. Instead of transactional conversations and traditional business mixers, the mission of River Valley Social is to bring women in the River Valley together through authentic connection, encouragement, and community. River Valley Social exists to create a space where women in every stage of business, career, or entrepreneurship feel supported, inspired, and empowered to grow together. Whether they’re launching a brand, growing a company, freelancing, or simply looking for community among other ambitious women.
The founder, Hannah Harris, expressed “When I moved here from Central Arkansas, I was honestly surprised there wasn’t already a women’s networking group. In a world where many businesses are still male-owned, women supporting women matters. When I left Conway, I also left behind a community of women who encouraged, supported, and cheered each other on, and I knew I wanted to create that here.”
So that is exactly what she did. River Valley Social had its first meeting on April 16th and so many amazing women in the River Valley were able to connect. What started as a simple idea quickly became a reflection of something many women in the area had been looking for: a welcoming community centered around encouragement rather than competition. As River Valley Social continues to grow, it represents more than just networking events, but the power of local women creating opportunities for one another and proving that strong communities are built through connection.
So why exactly is networking so beneficial in business? When it comes to networking, there are several benefits you receive. First of all, at the most basic level, networking expands access to people, information, and opportunities you wouldn’t reach on your own. Referrals grow businesses fast, people love to recommend someone they know and trust. Most small businesses don’t have large marketing budgets or built-in audiences, so growth often comes through referrals and word-of-mouth. When someone trusts you and recommends your business, that carries far more weight than any ad.
Another major benefit in networking is knowledge sharing. Connecting with other women in business creates opportunities to learn from one another’s experiences, challenges, and successes. Often, another entrepreneur has already faced the same obstacle you may currently be navigating and can offer advice, encouragement, or resources that help you grow faster. Networking can also build confidence. Talking about your business regularly helps you become more comfortable communicating your brand, your goals, and the value you provide. Beyond professional growth, networking creates a sense of community. Entrepreneurship can often feel isolating, and spaces like River Valley Social remind women that they are not building their businesses alone.
If River Valley Social sounds like this perfect fit for you, don’t miss the next meeting, May 14th at 8:30 A.M. at the Hangout Fitness and Sports. Whether you’re a business owner 20 years in, or you are trying to start up a new business, River Valley Social offers a welcoming space to build relationships, share ideas, and grow alongside a supportive community.
