The Steel Horse Rally first came to Fort Smith in 2015 and has been the party in downtown fort smith every year. The festivities began Friday, May 5, and carried into the entire day on Saturday.
Each year, bikers rev up their engine for a variety of vendors, live entertainment, events, and a parade.The musical entertainment includes bands like Hillbilly Vegas and Gary Hutchison & Friends, along with a Miss Steel Horse bikini contest.The Steel Horse rally will also be hosting its first annual Steel Horse Strongman Showdown. The Showdown features amateur men and women defeat laws of gravity and nature by lifting impossible weights and objects. This event was free to the public.
The Steel Horse Rally is a major event for the Fort Smith River Valley area, bringing in bikers from all over the country. It is now considered one of the fastest- growing motorcycle rallies in the nation.
The Steel Horse Rally Inc. is a non-profit with the mission of helping local charities that benefit children, veterans or the community.Their 2023 charities were The Buddy Smith Home, The Children’s Service League, and The Antioch for Youth and Family.
So, while the Steel Horse Rally rode in with good times and a good cause, it’s an important reminder to share the road with your smaller vehicles and practice safe and cautioned driving. Steel Horse Rally Bikers, when asked to give advice to fellow drivers, emphasized that it was equally important to look around you, as well as leaving extra distance and using your mirrors. To quote, he said, “ just a quick glance, it takes two seconds. Not even two seconds. Half a second could save someone’s life.”
