The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith (UAFS) Music and Theatre Department is holding auditions for their Spring show, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, on December 12th-14th.
The campus’ first full length musical since 2012, theatre professor Sally Story is excited to begin establishing musical theatre back into the entertainment seasons.
Working with music veterans such as Dr. Elizabeth Momand as music director and Dr. Alex Zacharella as conductor, the production team has already begun their designs and construction of the set.
December 12th is the singing audition day. You are asked to come with 32 bars of a contemporary musical prepared. You will have the options of singing a capella, with an accompanist–given that you provide proper sheet music–or singing with a backing track.
December 13th is a dance audition led by choreographer Ashleigh Matthews. This audition starts at 6 P.M. and asks that everyone be there on time in proper dance attire. If one has extenuating circumstances that do not allow you to attend, there will be a section on the audition form to let the stage managers know.
December 14th is callbacks night. Callbacks are when the directors need to see people audition again by providing scenes from the actual show that the auditioners read. Getting called back does not mean you are guaranteed a role; not being called back does not mean you are not getting cast. They are just an opportunity for the directors to see auditioners again.
You can sign up to audition by clicking the link below and filling out the audition form.
