Thursday, April 6 may have been a cool day for a tournament but Sigma Nu and fans of soccer made the best of it. The game carried on in the late afternoon on the UAFS intramural field.
The Sigma Cup tournament hosted thirteen teams of UAFS students. They played in 7 person teams, many of them consisting of both men and women. The team names in the first bracket were the Stud Muffins and the Ramadan FC. As the night continued the team names ranged from humorous to representation of a particular group on campus.
The event was light-hearted and held for a good cause. Spectators paid a three dollar admission fee, with all proceeds going to the Sigma Nu’s national philanthropy St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Pizza, hot dogs, and drinks were provided on admission.
The event had a familial, easygoing energy, along with some friendly competitiveness. While there were two games going side-by-side in the middle of the field, there were also several smaller games and a cornhole setup outlying the soccer goals.
The event was well organized, friendly, and easy both to participate in and to enjoy from the sidelines. Be on the lookout for the next Sigma Nu event! To donate to Sigma Nu’s cause, follow this link: https://www.stjude.org/donate
