The New Omicron
There has been a confirmed new variant of Coronavirus called the Omicron variant. The Covid-19 pandemic has been around for over two years at this point.
Coronavirus is a very serious issue in the world today. As of December 1st, 2021, there are currently 5,891 active covid-19 cases in the state of Arkansas. There has been a total of 529,768 covid-19 cases in Arkansas in the past two years, and there has been a total of 8,687 covid-19 related deaths in Arkansas.
This new variant is said to be more transmittable than the Delta variant. It is so new that there is not much information on if it is more severe, or whether the vaccine is effective against it. Early reports are saying that the Omicron variant is transmitting fast, and the cases are mostly mild.
More information will be distributed to the public within the next few weeks. It is difficult for researches to keep up with a condition that is constantly changing, but they are doing the best they can to keep people informed.
There has been talk about reinforcing safety measures around the world in order to combat this variant, but there is not enough information about this variant to make any definite decisions just yet. These next few weeks will be very important when it comes to learning more about the Omicron variant.
